The 2Ks Woodworking Story: Where Grit Meets High-Tech
very great workshop starts with a problem. For 2Ks Woodworking, it was a garage that refused to do its job. Built in a different era, the garage doors were just a few inches too narrow for modern cars. But where others saw a storage headache, I saw an opportunity.
Since buying my first home in 1999, I’ve never been one to shy away from a hands-on project. For over two decades, I tackled everything from minor fixes to major renovations, honing a deep respect for craftsmanship. But I always knew there was a way to bridge the gap between traditional woodworking and the precision of modern technology.
From the Ground Up
The transformation of the "too-small" garage began in 2019. I stripped it down, insulated the walls to withstand the New Jersey winters, and built custom cabinetry to organize what was quickly becoming a professional-grade space.
In 2020, while the world slowed down, the shop sped up. I decided to build my own CNC machine from scratch—a project that combined my love for engineering with my passion for sawdust. That experiment led to mounting a laser to the CNC and, eventually, upgrading to a dedicated Omtech 80W CO2 laser. This setup allows for the intricate detail and personalization that defines our work today.
Why "2Ks"?
The name 2Ks is a personal signature. It’s built around my initials, but it’s also a nod to my lifelong love for baseball. In the scorebook, a "backwards K" represents a strikeout looking—a symbol of precision and a moment where every detail matters. I bring that same focus to the shop, ensuring every piece that leaves my bench is a home run.
Our Philosophy: Making Ideas Tangible
At 2Ks Woodworking, we truly don’t just make "stuff." We don't believe in mass-produced items that sit on a shelf. Instead, our business is built on collaboration.
Most of our favorite projects start with a customer coming to us with a spark of an idea—a special gift for a loved one, a commemorative piece for a friend, or a way to capture a family memory. We take those ideas and use our unique blend of 25+ years of hands-on experience and high-tech tools to bring them to life.
